Key USB Framakey-Wikipedia: a portable compilation bringing Wikipedia and free software

This is a new project by Framasoft, in association with Wikimedia, which brings together in one and the same portable compilation, many free software with Wikipedia free encyclopedia. The USB "Framakey-Wikipédia" was recently released in beta version (the final version is planned for December) and is available for sale at the price of €25 or can be downloaded for free (archive 15 GB!) on the site of the Framarekey. Presentation of this new compilation by Framarekey : The USB "Framakey-Wikipédia" contains all of the articles in the encyclopedia in French (i.e. more than one million articles) along with their possible illustrations. The internet connection is not required for access to the content of Wikipedia.

Indeed, the consultation is done through free software Kiwix, which allows to navigate in a version of the encyclopedia stored on the key. In addition, the key offers access to many software known as "portable", on the basis of the association Framasoft Framakey project. Thus, the key contains more than 40 software free, the most common, ready to use directly from the stick without prior installation. Thus, the holder of a Framakey-Wikipedia will be able to use the Mozilla Firefox web browser, or the suite LibreOffice Office, even if they are not installed on the host machine, simply by running from the USB stick. The software on the key cover a wide range of the most common computing needs (Internet, Office Automation, creation or editing of images and sounds, utilities, etc). Technical features: Key USB 2 (supports Windows, Mac, GNU/Linux) Recommended operating system: Windows (XP or later). Ability to use Wikipedia offline from GNU/Linux or Mac (documentation included) Size: 32 GB, the Framakey Windows of space: 2 GB, Wikipedia space: 16 GB, free space: 15 GB List of main preinstalled software: Kiwix + Wikipedia (July 2011), Firefox 15, Thunderbird 15, LibreOffice 2.4.2 Gimp, Inkscape, Audacity, 7zip, etc.
